My Story

I have lived through years of incredible evolution in personal development and psychology.  ChristineAs the answers became available, I have avidly investigated and used them.  I believe that we all find answers to our life’s challenges when we wish for them. The result of all those years of evolution is that the answers are now much more quickly and easily available to everybody.

During that evolutionary time, for people of my generation there were often pauses, in my experience usually about a decade. These were times to enjoy and integrate my progress, while waiting for the next really big ideas in Personal Development to arrive. I didn’t travel alone. It took thousands of minds exploring and asking similar questions, to give us the answers we wished. We are never alone in our search, there are always millions of minds searching with us.

Unlimited Possibilities

I am grateful to the many minds and teachings that have given so many clues over all of these years. That we find the answers is just another proof of our unlimited possibilites. I believe that we now have all the knowledge and tools we need for each one of us to expand and find the happiness, success and peace that we seek.

We will continue to push the boundaries of our possibilities, that’s our natural human evolution. But all the tools and ideas we need for turning our lives around are available. We can be happy, have successful relationships, including with our children, and find or create the great careers and jobs that we love. That we live in a planet where cataclysmic events, whether as the result of weather, humans, or the movements of the earth’s crust is obvious to all. But as found in my own life, when tragedy happens, there is nothing to do but turn it into a healing journey, including finding the support we need in our pain.

Sharing the methods and tools for healing and change are my aim on this site. From a childhood raised in the world’s and my families war zones, often what I needed most was just to know that I could heal the wounds, could create a different future for myself and my children and leave to my children’s children. Having proved it to myself, I share my story to give you the belief that it is also possible in your life. All the contributors on this site give you more clues, tools and solutions to use in your life. We will explore the possibilities of the future as well as the healing of the past.

Re-solving the Past

As we resolve our childhood dilemmas and problems, we gain our greatest insights and leap forward in our life. Our past problems then become our joys and victories, and with each victory we are more expanded, more confident and have more to give. The questions and problems of my childhood took a great deal of my adulthood to re-solve but you can achieve it so much more quickly. Like so many people, the attitudes and behaviours that helped me to survive my childhood in difficult and dangerous places, didn’t work for an adult life of peace and inner content. Although I find it hard to admit, I could, and in earlier years did, reproduce the war zones of my childhood.

Often, we find ourselves repeating learned behaviours, that in our inner being we reject. An example you might recognise is when we reject some behaviour of a parent, and on closer inspection, realise that we do exactly the same thing. Actually, behaviour we strongly reject in anyone, can give us very important clues to our inner drives. (Katie Byron uses this as a start point in The Work) Sometimes we can see that we live our life not on the basis of a choice that we have made, but by going flat out in the opposite direction to the behaviour we reject!! We are living in reaction to our past not the choices of our present.

It is now widely understood how 0ur lives are limited by the mistaken beliefs of the past. We understand that when something in the present triggers a massive emotional response, we are responding to a past experience, not the present. Many more of us are beginning to appreciate that our world mirrors our mind, as I came to truly understand and express in We are The World. What we are collectively healing, is healing in the world. It may seem slow, but the change in attitudes towards equality of gender and race, have come further in my lifetime than I could ever have imagined in my wildest youthful hopes.

Our Healed Past is our Gift to the Present

We change as we change the past, or our view of it. We do get to rewrite the movie of our life. Our old childhood dilemmas, when healed, become our gift. They give us another contribution we can make to the world, by sharing with others what has helped us. In the invisible world of Jung’ s collective unconscious, everything we heal is healing in our world’s mind.

From generations that largely made it up as they went along, we have come to know so much more about relationships and life’s possibilities to pass on to the future. Some of the struggles of a generation, for instance the inner work to draw together the apparent clash of roles in Spiritual Feminist Mothering, have lead to greater vision and wisdom, making more wholeness available to everyone.

I began as a confused army kid who left school at 16, and went on to become The Middle Aged Undergraduate, and a teacher. With Master Trainer Jeff Allen, I wrote a personal study programme for change,  Life Manual,  a ‘How To’ of change, resolution and transformation. It had been a long time dream to write a book on personal development, but just as life was at its best, I also experienced perhaps the deepest pain of my life. As John Lennon wrote, Life is What Happens when you are busy making other plans. The tragedy of bereavement hits many of our lives just as suddenly as it hit John’s family, friends and fans. We need to learn to deal with tragedies in the present, not just in the past.

From my work with Jeff Allen and Chuck and Lency Spezzano, amongst others, I know that healing our past, or our view of the past, is crucial to our life change. Having participated in workshops with people from around the world, finding their peace and inner joy despite horrendously painful pasts, I know happiness and healing is available to all of us. We have reached a place in human history where not only can we resolve the past, but like space travellers freed from the gravity of the past, go on to explore and expand our limitations.

I offer my story on these pages as a hope and a proof to anyone who is on their journey, but not yet fully convinced of the unlimited possibilities of  their destination.
